Rapid descent was in response to loss of cabin pressure.

Hang on a minute, I just thought about this, why would an engine failure trigger oxygen masks? I'm not an aviation expert but I'm pretty sure a single engine failing wouldn't cause a descent so rapid it gives passengers nose bleeds. I suspect we're being mislead for whatever reason and the aircraft decompressed leading to the pilot making an emergency controlled descent.

Report from China Daily re: Orient Thai engine failure. . . "Some flight attendants reportedly began crying" This is a clear sign of root and branch failings in staff selection and training. If the cabin crew fall apart in a crisis, lord only knows what's going on with aircraft maintenance. As I said in the pseudo shoutbox, Fly-By-Wire is probably more like Fly-By-Wire-And-A-Wrap-of-Insulation-Tape .
