Install Thai language on mobile phones

I met a friend yesterday who showed me her mobile was capable of texting in both Thai and English. As my interest in Thailand grows i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on enabling mobiles to text in different languages.

Thanks.

I've got a Nokia mobile phone bought in Thailand and it can do both.

Depends for which market they are manufactured, I guess.

So if you need the Thai text, you'd better buy it in Thailand.

I have a Sony Ericsson that I purchased at the Emporium in Bangkok. I'm pretty sure it's a case of changing the software and any engineer with the right kit could do that... however, the phone would still be useless for Asian Languages because they keypad wouldn't have the right characters. The only way you could do it would be to purchase in Thailand, as I did, or find a way to order a new keypad.

Here's the keypad on my old Thai phone. It just sits in the bottom of a drawer now, after a life of hard work connecting my laptop to the outside world from the village. Actually, this website was operated exclusively from this very cellphone for about 5 months!...

Yes, I've seen a Thai fonts installer (CD-ROM pack) at Sony Ericsson service center in Bangkok last week (Loxley in Kloeng Toey). I can also install Chinese and Japanese fonts on my cell phone (sony ericsson M600i).

Shouldn't it just require a firmware download? If you have a phone that's used in the Thai market then the Thai language firmware be available for download if you look in the right place.

I'm resurrecting this topic because my wife and daughter have phones purchased in the UK. My phone was purchased in Thailand and has the Thai keypad and software, but I need it myself, so I want to get the Thai keypads fitted to their phones and install the right software. In the case of Halfdrunk, it would just be the software as it's a touch screen phone...

Where and how can I get this done?

Just a language add on. Keypad might be an issue here.

It really depends what phones you bought them. I have bought several Nokias in the UK in the past and installed the Thai language pack on them (you need to first change the product code, which you can do with some downloadable software, and then get the updated firmware from Nokia's website). However I tried recently with an N97 mini and wasn't able to - Nokia may have blocked the ability on their most recent releases.

Didn't have the Thai on the keypad of course, but after a while you get used to where the letters are.

Or the easiest thing......get them an iphone 4 - all languages already in it and simple to change in the settings. Just the cost, that's all.........

You need to say what sort of phone you have.

i.e. Android from version 2.2 supports the display of Thai fonts as they switched to Unicode. You'd just need to download a Thai keyboard.

It's still possible for older versions of Android. It's just a bit more complicated - ie. you need to install new font files with Thai charscters (which would basically be the same as the ones installed on phones sold here), but to do that, you need to root the phone. Again you'd also want to add a Thai keyboard app to let you write as well as read Thai.

And well, since divorce is illegal in the Philippines, she needs to get her marriage annulled, and it is not easy. So forget about marrying her.

As others have said, she would need a "Certificate of No Previous Marriage" from the Philippines Records office so if she's still married in PI (& if she was the one doing the divorcing in Thailand she will be) then you're not going to get one. One other thing to add, if you were to have children, they would technically be the property of her husband in the Philippines... Google the Banged Up Abroad "Prisoner of Love" (preview here  https://youtu.be/Qed6nWTefFA) episode about the British guy who found himself in jail with the threat of his kid being taken off him in similar circumstances.

Working 7days/week mostly, has a young kid to take care of, I understand why she doesn't text you so often, because she is busy. Why don't you give a call instead of texting

I just want to add...do NOT count on the husband not finding out; knowing Philippine culture, he WILL find out.

I have been reading this forum for a few months and it's been helpful hearing others experiences. To the point.....met a Vietnamese woman (32) who has lived here for 8 years. Married in Vietnam and came to the US a few years later. Had a child 6 years ago and recently divorced last December (just found that out through record searches today). Works in nail salon ALOT!! Me...42 professional, 4 kids from previous marriage (15-8 y/o). Debt free except home. Met in October 2014 through a friend, just said hi and that was it. She went on vacation over Christmas and through February back to VN. Mutual friend (kinda - does her nails with her) asked us both to go out one night and we met back up. It's been 2 months and we have gone out to dinner, i cooked one night, have been out with friends. The last time we went out she wanted to go with our mutual friend and her boyfriend or it seemed she would not go. We all went and had a good time. Tonight she was going to go to dinner with alot of us but last night said she was afraid to go with all those people. I think its a language thing. Okay...it takes her FOREVER to text and I will not text again until she does. Somedays she is texting alot and then it may go for a day or two with nothing. I have started to not text her for 3-4 days before I text her something...usually only to ask her out. She works 7 days a week except everyother Sunday off and she is usually with her child. Is this normal, any suggesstions? Also, I continue to do my thing while I have patience with her. I go out with other people, attend social events, etc. etc. I have a very good social life and many friends for only being in the area for a year. I have started learning Vietnamese and told her I plan on going to VN next year...I plan on going with or without her. I have never dated an Asian before. I don't have yellow fever per say...I find her very fun and something special about her. I have tried to not be so needy and I get more response from her after I don't do anything for days with her. Recently she has even texted me first....OMG what a surprise!!! Girls I was seen before are asking why I'm not contacting them so much anymore....truth...I dont want to ruin my chance with this girl. How do I get more response out of her? Any suggestions?
