.....statement from the office EU Ambassador to the Philippines said the European Commission's decision came after "the announcement by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in October 2009 of a Significant Safety Concern relating to the oversight functions carried out by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and on the earlier downgrading of the Philippines' safety rating by the US Federal Aviation Administration."

It said that the decision by the European Commission "reflected the unanimous opinion" of the EU's Air Safety Committee at its meeting in Brussels on March 17-19.
Do any Philippine airlines fly to the EU? This sounds much like the EU ban on Indonesian airlines, warranted though no Indonesian airlines flew to any EU country at the time of the ban. It did, however, have a beneficial effect, in that it pushed Indonesia to improve the oversight and implementation of safety rules and regulations, Garuda Airways is now due to resume flights to Amsterdam on 1st June 2010 after a gap of 6 years.

Badges? We ain't got no stinking badges!

Why am I not surprised when it takes me 30 minutes to get through security, and a congressman 2 seconds?

    • Taking a newborn baby back to Laos
      By timmurray · Posted
My (now) wife & I had our baby in Thailand, and when he was 3-4 days old took him back to Laos via Nong Khai without a passport. We had a Thai birth certificate, but immigration didn't ask to see any documentation at all. Once back in Laos, we got him added to the family book, got him a separate Lao birth certificate from the Nai Ban office, and then a Lao passport which took just 3 days. The Lao birth certificate has him as being born in Laos, which contradicts the Thai birth certificate. We didn't get nobbled for having a child out of marriage until we were going through the marriage process, and met those nice men at the foreigner control police - no receipt provided.

Well I'm now on TOT Fiber. The engineer (x2) turned up this morning and installed the modem. Everything working fine, minimum fuss, took them forty minutes. Installation was free with the 1 year contract, just had to pay Thb1,070 for the wifi modem.
